World Mythology and Video Games

こんぼんは。

Aside from the Persona series, there are a number of other games I've played that gave me a bit more of a taste of world mythology. Many of them are made by Atlus, and have many of the same beings across games. The first Atlus game I played was: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

However, even more ubiquitous games like Pokemon reference real-world mythology, although it takes more digging to find the connections. For example, consider that Froslass is a reference to the ゆきおんな (yuki-onna).

What are some of your favorite games/series for learning more about world mythology?

Next time, I'll talk about some of my favorite games and anime for Japanese culture.

Introduction

おはよう、

はじめまして。ハイディです。どうぞよろしくおねがいします。

I'm studying Japanese because I've spent more than a decade exposed to bits of culture in the context of video games and anime. I'm finally at a point where curiosity and opportunity intersected, so I'm making an effort to learn the language!
As an enthusiast of world mythology, I dream of being able to travel to Japan and learning more about the local practices; particularly the kami of Shinto faith. Beyond this, having only a taste of culture from games and anime has left a large gap in my cultural knowledge of Japan, and I am anxious to learn more to fill it!

Persona 5 was only the latest game that gave me a just a taste of the culture.

Later!
